Seksualiti Merdeka

Seksualiti Merdeka. Sexuality Independance.
No. It's not about the freedom of anal-sex and sensual-dildo-sex but the freedom to exude homosexual/bisexual lifestyles.
Header:
Seksualiti Merdeka will take place on 29, 30 & 31 August in conjunction with our Merdeka celebrations to address the fact that 51 years after independence, not all Malaysians are free to be who they are. Many of us are proud productive citizens of the country, yet we live double lives, pretending to be somebody we are not; fearful we may lose our jobs, our families, our lives, the moment someone finds out who we truly love. It is time to ask, why this has to be. Cause, as the song says, if one of us ain’t free, none of us are free.
You know what? Live and let live. I don't mind befriending self-proclaimed proud and loud friends who prefers anal penetration. What matter is that I'm a muslim and in Islam, homosexuality is forbidden. Enough said.
You can discuss homosexuality in great length but we are mere mortals with limited intelligence. We can try our best to rationalize homosexuality but as muslims, we should know better than to trust muslim performers, activists and artists who thinks like atheists.
And on the subject of leading a double life, do thieves walk around telling people "I just stole that guys wallet. He seems cavalier about it."? If it's something forbidden, why should we be proud about it? Justifying a crime will not change the implication of the crime.

Are the organizers Muslim?

If they are, then I agree with your statements. If they're not, I suppose they have the freedom to choose the paths they walk, regardless of my personal beliefs.

I suppose there's always the worry of 'too much free speech'.

There are people who are homosexuals. Even religion acknowledges this. The only difference is that it is prohibited due to the dangers associated with homosexuality.

Oh well.

You can never reason with those who don't want to be reasoned with.

how about redefining merdeka as a stage where they are free from the grip of their sexuality and be normal?

the grip of sexuality is even dangerous than be free from normality - it has invisible chains.

the word sexuality is used as a weapon for destruction. they should label it as post-colonial terrorism when it is associated with merdeka.

but ure definitely sending a mixed message here, afiq.

are cha

They called it sexual liberation. It basically means the freedom to exude sexual orientations in real life.

Miss Aida

Yup yup yup. The organizers are muslims. Islam acknowledges homosexuality as a sinful act. I don't see how homosexuality manifest itself into a lifestyle because from what I can see and perceive, these lifestles has a strong western root.

If they want to exude their homosexuality, (in the spirit of independance) I think they should start their own trends. Why follow orangputehs right? I mean, aren't we free already?

mirul

Am I now? The grip. It'll make a hell of a movie. Or better, a bicurious docu-porno!

Let's clear up some facts. Can tell ya not all the organisers are Muslims and it runs the gamut of all the races - and religions - here.

Homosexuality has a strong Western root? Look back into history and you'll find it in Sanskrit, Chinese and Japanese text so don't blame everything on Occidental deviancy.

But it's good that young minds are open enough to talk about it.

not homosexuality but the so call homosexual lifestyle.

Don't jump into conclusions man... it's bad for the heart.

The event was held to promote open discussion about sexuality, be it if you are straight, gay, lesbian, transgender or bisexual and it is very healthy to see such a post and to hear different points of view.

As a volunteer and a participant for the events held, I could see that we all have different views and preception of things, be it if you are straight or even within the (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and transgender) LGBT community. We learn that No one is right and No one is wrong cause we are all with different background and upbringing and thus we all form our own personal opion which I believe many people need to learn to respect even if its not something that we like to hear personaly. I think that its healthy that such openess and frankness is being spoken and shared. Like they say, sometimes, its ok to agree to disagree.

I have to admit that I find it amusing that many people see being gay as a lifestyle. I am hoping that the writer can explain to me how is it a lifestyle. As far as I know, shopping is a lifestyle but is loving someone, be it someone of the opposite sex or of the same sex, a lifestyle or just being human? People might argue that being gay is againts human nature and the nature of God, but if thats the case, is smoking part of human nature? Is drinking part of human nature? Is hating people because they are different part of human nature? As far as I know, the nature of God is love. Loving one another and being there for your brothers and sisters.

Maybe the only thing that people might have againts LGBT is the sex part. But if LGBT couples have sex because they love each other, is that wrong? I know many straight people who just have sex because of lust and not of love. Is that alright? Makes me wonder.

Oh well, like the writer has said, we are mere mortals and thus, let God be the only one making and passing judgement on our lives.

Cheers

Loving each other is wonderful. But having sex with people of the same gender is different altogether. Why? Because:

“We also (sent) Lut: He said to his people: "Do ye commit lewdness such as no people in creation (ever) committed before you? For ye practise your lusts on men in preference to women : ye are indeed a people transgressing beyond bounds." And his people gave no answer but this: they said, "Drive them out of your city: these are indeed men who want to be clean and pure!" But we saved him and his family, except his wife: she was of those who legged behind. And we rained down on them a shower (of brimstone): Then see what was the end of those who indulged in sin and crime!”\

“The people of Lut (those who dwelt in the towns of Sodom in Jordan) rejected the messengers. Behold, their brother Lut said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah)? I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust. So fear Allah and obey me. No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the lord of the Worlds. Of all the creatures in the world, will ye approach males, And leave those whom Allah has created for you to be your mates? Nay, ye are a people transgressing (all limits)!" They said: "If thou desist not, O Lut! thou wilt assuredly be cast out!" He said: "I do detest your doings." "O my Lord! deliver me and my family from such things as they do!" So We delivered him and his family,- all. Except an old woman who lingered behind. But the rest We destroyed utterly. We rained down on them a shower (of brimstone): and evil was the shower on those who were admonished (but heeded not)! Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might Most Merciful.”

“(We also sent) Lut (as a messenger): behold, He said to his people, "Do ye do what is shameful though ye see (its iniquity)? Would ye really approach men in your lusts rather than women? Nay, ye are a people (grossly) ignorant!" But his people gave no other answer but this: they said, "Drive out the followers of Lut from your city: these are indeed men who want to be clean and pure!" But his people gave no other answer but this: they said, "Drive out the followers of Lut from your city: these are indeed men who want to be clean and pure!" And We rained down on them a shower (of brimstone): and evil was the shower on those who were admonished (but heeded not)!”

As muslims, I cannot deny how strongly god opposes homosexuality.

Afiq,

Do you want me to go back in time when we had this discussion before?

Note that the Koranic scripture mentions preference. So first question would be whether or not being a homosexual, the attraction to the same sex, is a "preference".

Islam was never against homosexuality, Afiq. It's against homosexual acts. I think we've had this discussion before, right?

Secondly, as a volunteer for the event, there was hardly anything against Islam at all. They were not promoting homosexuality, but more of the sense of having the freedom of expression.

Transsexuals wanted less abuse from the authorities. Research papers were shared with the public. Movies were made to view. Stories were shared and point of views were diverse and spoken out.

Sadly, there weren't anyone speaking out about the rights of the straight people in general. Nobody spoke of the fear of having left their marriage license behind at home and being caught with his wife.

However, it was interesting how some parents voiced out the fears of under aged pre-marital sex.

And no, the organizers were not Muslims.

I was probably the only Muslim volunteer.

homosexuality means same-gendered sex if I'm not mistaken. The etymology is too clear to be mistaken.

True enough, Islam is never against the act of liking or loving people of the same gender. I don't see why people who love other people of the same gender who is not family related should call themselves homosexuals.

Why the need to address a state of loving with a term that blatantly means same-gendered sex?

umm... no offence aput ... but who died and made you the mufti??

Hafidz Baharom said...

someone had to die for me to become a mufti?!

is there a ritual sacrifice or something?!

actually that statement came from the consultation with three ustaz's from various mosques and suraus, two of them being in Shah Alam.

and yes, I do talk to the religious people about homosexuality.

According to them, there is nothing abnormal about people loving men as well as women, but the actions is itself forbidden.

This was also mentioned by Farish Noor during the event itself.

I'll be checking the papers if anyone died, and will be checking with the state imams if they made me a mufti nonetheless.

interestingly, this post escaped me but it is still riveting. It is also my responsibility to my community to respond to such a post.

Afiq:
By definition, homosexuality means sexual orientation to persons of the same sex. You're confusing it with anal sex. A common mistake since the act is performed mostly by men who are homosexual. God abhores sodomy but I found nothing that says God opposes the affection between two men.

To say that God destroyed the City of Sodom because the inhabitants were gay is inaccurate. He destroyed them because they performed sodomy, not because they are homosexuals. Just cause someone's gay, doesn't mean they have to perform anal sex.

The Destruction of Sodom is still a debatable issue since it has many different interpretations. Some would agree that God destroyed them after He discovered the intentions of the inhabitants, which was to gang rape God's angels who were in disguise as men. This goes against the rule hospitality which during those times were regarded as a law as sacred as His other teachings. So God punished them because they were inhospitable. Not bacause they were gay. Again, a different interpetation, not saying that your interpretation (a popular one among muslims) is wrong.

Some might not regard the Quran as a set of strict orders but rather guidelines to help each one of us develop a more personal relationship with Allah SWT. Not saying that we should neglect it.

homosexuality and typical lifestyles of homosexuals are 2 very different things. the former is a trait while the latter is well, a lifestyle. Lifestyles are subjective.

notagainstgaysbutagainstactsofhomo:
you suck. who died and made YOU mufti? you think you're holier than aput is just because your a conformist. maybe you are a mufti and the reason why you think you are holier than the rest of us is because Allah talks to you directly because you know, you're his messenger right? stay on your meds buddy and get educated.

Miss Aida:
"You can never reason with those who don't want to be reasoned with."
Dido. It really is hard to reason with people who are closed-minded. But hey, there will always be people who will disagree on something and anyone who tries to change that is just being stupid.

Everyone else who's a homophobe:
i don't see why there is a reason to be disgusted with homosexuals. i mean really, it's not like gay people wanna jump on you out of nowhere and start raping you. it's just a preference, not some kind of psychological hunger that serial killers have. and maybe you got hit on by a gay guy or girl, still it doesn't mean they wanna rape you. If you don't swing that way, then say no. Why some people feel the need to punch them is beyond my understanding. When girls hit on me, i don't feel the need to punch them. So why the disgust?

they picked the title not as a clever cover-up with a secret subliminal messege to lure innocent readers into becoming homosexuals.

though it is clever. Seksualiti merdeka literally means the freedom of sexuality. No hidden meanings, no subliminal lures, no misinterpretations (unless you choose to, then there is comething wrong with you).

It's to target readers who are homosexual and who are interested in discussions on the subject. And i a straight person read it, would it be so bad? It was also meant to promote understanding.

It's pretty straight-forward really. i mean how dumb can you be to actually be mislead? probably dumb enough to go to starbucks and tell the cashier "i know about your dulce de leche promotion and i will not fall for your tricks to capture me and place me in a secret facility where experiments will be conducted to turn me into a rabbit."

aqmal and aput,

loving between same sex is not homosexuality.
homosexuality or homosexual act (i have problem to differentiate it), is when a men attract to another men's physical, be it anal penetration or just oral activities.

You should keep in mind that, any men who exposing his aurat to another men, is a sinful act. Men-to-men aurat is the private part.

Loving is OK, but when it comes to licking each other, exposing aurat, that is not OK...eventhou no anal penetration...
